Branding combines the tradition behind rites of passage, the intense sensation of Fireplay, and the effects of body-art, to create semi-permanent or permanent patterns on the skin.
You might choose to include branding as part of your Fireplay ritual, or indeed to focus your ritual on receiving a brand, in order to mark a transition or invoke transformation in your inner or outer world. Choosing a symbol that represents the changes you are manifesting in your life, and having that symbol branded on to your skin, not only intensifies the ritual itself, but also serves as an embodied statement of commitment to that change.
Rowan currently offers microbranding, a semi-permanent form of branding using a heated autopsy needle to create patterns from a series of dots on the skin, and is in the process of training in more permanent methods such as cautery branding.
